After the 3 week break / holiday in the Formula 1 calendar, I thought it seemed fitting to review an application that I’ve been searching for for a long time.
Since I got an Android phone I’ve been looking every now and then for a decent application that allows me to easily follow the Formula 1 world championship. I don’t understand why there isn’t an official Android Formula1.com application when they have a version for virtually every other mobile platform. Anyway, so I tried different sports apps (like the ESPN Sportcenter app, which really eats data) and I haven’t come across anything decent, until last night.
The application is called F1 Live Racing and is made by Genera Interactive. Its quite easy to use and is only a 1.5mb download.
Once the application loads you are presented with a main screen that shows a countdown to the next race, the times of the events, the latest news item and a scrollable list of the current driver standings. The application runs full screen, so a nice feature is the analogue clock in the top right corner.
The bottom of the page has buttons to take you to the different sections in the application. These are quite self explanatory and more can be seen of these areas in the gallery below.
Touching on the race countdown box loads what seems to be a live timing screen for qualifying and the race, but as there is no current race in progress I won’t be able to confirm this. It might just be a basic status feed.
Selecting one of the drivers in the main screen’s standing list gives you a basic stats page showing the driver’s number of wins and championship performance. It also displays a nice graph with the driver’s placing at each race this year.
F1 Live Racing takes a while to load (about 20s) but it is the best Formula 1 news and information application I have come across so this can be forgiven.
The application can be found on the Market or via the QR code link below:
