Excessive Data Usage??

Could anybody please assist me? I recently upgraded to my first android phone (Galaxy SII) and my data usage just suddenly went through the roof. I've disabled background data. I've installed Onavo Count to check what's eating up my data and according to this, it's facebook.

With my previous phone (Samsung Pixon 8800) I comfortably used 30MB a month and still had some data left at the end of the month. Now I use facebook only once a day for approx. 5 to 10 minutes and I used up 30MB in 5 days!!

What the hell!! Please help?

I can make a recommendation: use Opera Mini to browse the facebook mobile site instead. Also set image quality to low in Opera mini. You will then have an experience similar to your previous phone, and comparable data usage. The apps suck down high quality images, this is true of other apps too, like Google+ and so on. I can easily use up 2gig of data on my tablet just using a few apps like Google+, Facebook, Pulse, Flipboard, and Currents. Keeping the apps updated also uses up a ton of bandwidth.

So in short, use mobile sites through Opera Mini for minimal data usage. Use the built-in browser for a muvh better experience, albeit with slightly more data usage, or use the apps if data is not a problem (or you need the sharing feature).

I agree with Toby. The downside to these monster smart phones are they're ability to chew up data for nothing! Little things that you can change to prevent a 2GB usage pm is like using Opera mini (or other browsers) but set them to not download the images. Most of them try to download all images in HD too. Youtube for one is set to stream HD as standard. So turning that off can save you a ton of data!
