Hmmmm... There is going to be a Samsung repair center in Pta soon. When did you get the device Bosvark?
So, I have a Samsung P1000 tablet that needs a new battery. Samsung says to book it in with one of their agents. The agent send it to Cape Town and it will take 1-2 weeks! How, in this day and age is it acceptable to have to wait two weeks for a battery replacement?
Anyone out there with an alternative suggestion please?

Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-7100 - Rooted CWM - PhoeiniX ROM - XXDLK7 - JB 4.1.2 - RedPill Kernel
HTC Desire - Rooted with Touch EXT4 - ParanoidAndroid - JB 4.1.2
Asus Transformer TF101 - Rooted with Clockwork Recovery - CyanogenMod - JB 4.1.2
Both are less than a year old.
I would completely understand sending a device away to get a cracked screen replaced or some other major surgery. But common, replacing a battery should not be rocket science. Any walk-in store should at least have the ability to do something basic like that. Not only have they removed the ability for a user to this, but they now make it absolute agony to get it done at all.
My other device (P7500), has what looks like a watermark under the screen. Apparently this is a known issue and should be an immediate warranty swop out, but no, it has to be sent to Cape Town for that. WTF?
I am a huge Samsung fan, my house filled with their appliances, but crap like this really puts me off.
Yes it is unfortunate that you cannot replace batteries on tablets, but I believe this has to do with getting a sturdy construction. The glass, case and cover are bonded together with strong glue so that the tablet doesn't creak or twist when held at a corner. I think the HTC Flyer had a removable battery cover, but that did make the tablet thicker.

I appreciate why batteries are not able to be changed by the end user. My gripe is with the lack of proper customer service from the manufacturer or their agents. If you are going to remove the ability to do something basic, then back it up with a service that will alow it to be done while I wait. Sending the device away is unacceptable. I see a gap in the market, for service providers who are technically capable, to provide a service as long as it does not void the warranty. Why does Samsung use someone like Robtronics anyway, when they only have one service centre in the whole country is beyond me. Surely the likes of Teljoy, Nashua, Incredible Connection etc. are capable to these kind of things? They provide backup for high technology products all of over the country.
Good point.
