Question iPad2 vs Android tablets for disabled child

    Hi,

My brother has a disabled child, and we want to buy her a tablet for easier development. So perhaps she can build puzzles and maybe even later enable speech via the tablet.

Now I am very unfamiliar if there are any android apps available for this type of application, but I am as unfamiliar if there are iPad apps available. Could anyone tell if there are such type of apps for young/disabled kids?

Also, which android tablet would be good, as I don't want one with a too restrictive/hard touchscreen. It should be very responsive.

Hey Reenen. iPads are seriously great devices. I can't knock them. Only iTunes is a pain. Lack of local apps is also a problem. You have to register an American or Australian account to really take advantage of the device.

As for Android, there is a huge free market available. Great educational apps too. As for a good Tablet, go for the Asus transformer. Its just over R4000 and a very responsive 10.1" capacitive screen. Go to Vodaworld and go play with the various tablets.

Good luck and let us know what you choose ;-)

Hi Thanks, is there a quick way to find voda-worlds? Specifically I'm in cape town and don't have such a cool place like they have in Jhb. (I once visited that vodaworld in Midrand)

Hmmmm... You can try cell shops. I see allot of them actually stock working tablets you can work with before you buy. Try a Dions Wired and Incredible...
