LG launches the Optimus 3D in South Africa; First 3D Smartphone in SA

The LG Optimus 3D is now available in South Africa, adding to the growing line of LG Android devices available here in South Africa, and quite rightly taking LG’s flagship crown on top of the range.

Michael Bang, General Marketing Manager for LG Electronics South Africa, had the following to say:

“A whole new world is opened for consumers in smartphone performance with Tri-Dual architecture. We are sure that the Optimus 3D will attract significant interest from the public and users who want the very latest in smartphone technology and we are excited about 3D as the next big frontier in mobile devices.”

Using glasses free technology, LG has provided a whole new mobile experience, activated with the flip of a button on the device, displaying an interface specifically designed to ‘Pop’ out at you. If you’ve ever seen the Nintendo 3Ds – it’s very similar to that I believe.

With games specifically made for 3D available and in development, the experience will not be limited to basic use, and thanks to twin cameras on the back, one is also able to take 3D photos.

Unfortunately the phone is launching with Froyo (Android 2.2), but it should be updated to Gingerbread at some point, although one hopes that this will happen before the hotly anticipated and soon to arrive Ice Cream Sandwich is announced and distributed. We can only hope…

Other than that, the phone is pretty much on par with current tech spec wise, with Dual Core technology on board, 512mb of RAM, as well as a decent sized 4.3 inch screen, perfect for displaying all that 3D goodness!

The phone will be available in South Africa towards the end of September, in time for the Festive Season shopping period, and will retail for approximately R5 499.

First 3D Smartphone Available in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG, September, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) officially launched the long-awaited LG Optimus 3D Smartphone earlier this year and the unit will be the first full 3D phone available in South Africa

The LG Optimus 3D is an innovative new Android smartphone featuring second generation dual core technology and an advanced “Tri-Dual” architecture, offering a full 3D experience in a smartphone form factor, which includes recording, viewing and sharing 3D content.

The phone will initially be released with the Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System (OS). The hardware will support upgrades to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

The LG Optimus 3D takes the smartphone experience into new territory with its Tri-Dual configuration – dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory – which allows for improved performance when multi-tasking, enjoying a movie or playing graphics-intensive games. This LG smartphone is also a major step forward in the utilization of full 3D functionality in everyday life – users can record video and images with the built in 3D camera and immediately view content in 3D without the need for special glasses.

“A whole new world is opened for consumers in smartphone performance with Tri-Dual architecture,” says Michael Bang, General Marketing Manager for LG Electronics South Africa. “We are sure that the Optimus 3D will attract significant interest from the public and users who want the very latest in smartphone technology and we are excited about 3D as the next big frontier in mobile devices.”

LG’s full 3D concept transforms 3D technology from a novelty to a practical tool. 3D recording, viewing and sharing is faster and more convenient with the Optimus 3D and can be enjoyed without cumbersome glasses. LG’s latest smartphone enables owners to capture high quality 3D content with 3D video stabilization technology and real-time misalignment correction algorithm which automatically corrects camera-shake during recording. The smartphone’s wide viewing angle also makes watching videos and movies much more convenient and comfortable.

The phone will be available in South Africa towards the end of September, in time for the Festive Season shopping period, and will retail for approximately R5 499.
