Lekgotla in Nelson Mandela Square bore witness to the official South African unveiling of the Motorola RAZR on the warm evening of the 27th October 2011.
At 7.1mm thick, currently the thinnest smartphone in the world, with distinctive and unique styling, state-of-the art technology inside and a splash of MOTO mojo, Motorola is looking to deliver a truly awesome consumer experience with this sexy little number.
South Africa holds the honour of being the 6th country since 18 October to see a launch, and will also be one of the forst countries selling the phone to the public, with sales due to start around mid November.
Vodacom will have exclusivity for a short while, at a retail price of R6,999.00 and on a Business Call contact at a fairly reasonable R269.00 per month on a 24 month contract.

Brief Feature Rundow:
Enterprise
Among the innovations that Motorola has added, is fully encrypted, secure Enterprise capability.
They have cleverly kept work away from your personal life by separating the memory storing the Enterprise data from your personal data. Enterprise capabilities are accessed by logging in to the service. It is also possible to remotely wipe the phone should it be stolen, or an employee resigns from the company. However, the persona; partition will not be affected, enabling a smoother transition for an employee. The phone also integrates with Citrix, and comes with MotoCast, allowing the user to remotely access a computer from across the internet to retrieve files and documents.
Webtop – A desktop experience in your pocket
Like the Atrix before it, the RAZR is compatible with a host of various docks, which, when connected to them, will activate a separate OS on the phone – Webtop. This provides a desktop experience when using a larger screen.
The phone is compatible with Bluetooth keyboards and mice (Mouses?), essentially making it a truly miniature PC – perfect for those business travelers who like to travel really lightly. The full laptop dock is also available, and will be compatible with future devices as well.
Water Resistant
Motorola has made the phone fairly water resistant by utilising technology called Spash Guard. The outer and inner parts of the phone are coated in a substance called micron silicon, which helps protect the phone from its nemesis – Water Damage.
The RAZR also has kevlar weave on the back, strengthening the phone, while keeping it light weight and feeling like the quality device that it is.
Smart Actions
Motorola mentions that the battery should easily last at least a day and a half of regular use, thanks to an application called Smart Actions.
The RAZR will quickly learn your routine, knowing when to turn WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth on and off. This will help with unnecessary waste of power should you forget to turn WiFi or Bluetooth off, as well as make life extremely convenient. Ie – It will learn that at 7am, you turn your Bluetooth on in your car to sync up with the hands free. It will then do this automatically, and turn itself off when you reach work.
Motorola has definitely emerged from a quiet year on the SA front with a clear competitor to the likes of the Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation.
Expect a more detailed analysis later this weekend, as well as a rundown of the event itself, including photos and videos. For now, the press release is below!
