Rumours about Google Tablet

Google-Android-iPad

After its recent move into the cell phone market, rumours are that Google is looking forward to developing it’s own Android based Tablet PC.

Right after the Apple iPad‘s launch, news has been reported about Google preparing to design its own Tablet PC powered by its famous Android operating system.
Their tablet is expected to be a strong competitor to the Apple iPad.

Customization

One of the biggest features about the Google Android operating system is it’s open source framework, while Apple keeps iOS4 all locked up and a customer’s experience with iOS4 is very limited. Gadgets operated by the Android operating system give customers more freedom of choice by configuring the interface to their liking.

Flash

Another major advantage is that Android supports Flash since its Froyo release, with the launch of Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta. Apple’s restriction of Adobe Flash running on iOS4 will be to their detriment, as there is much media content which is Flash-based. It could be said that many customers will feel disappointed by the inaccessible web content.

Apps

Although Apple has 200,000 apps, Google has already received more than 50,000 apps to their Android Market in a short time period, although in both cases the essential apps used can be reduced to several hundred. When it comes to programming apps, Apple’s API’s and such are highly isolated from the general public making it harder to program for iOS4, whereas, Android app developerment allows users to publish their source code and places less restrictions upon the apps. Android users can also download apps outside of the App market, which cannot be said for Apple unless the Apple device is Jail Broken.

Tethering

The latest version of Android also includes support for tethering, which is great for the newer Android phones which will use Froyo 2.2, and for their future Tablets. All Android devices are capable of internet sharing, whether it be through the latest version of Android or through Apps available on the market. Conversely, Apple iOS4 does allow tethering, although one needs to pay $20 to AT&T for that function, and local mobile operators are looking to do a similar approach for Apple iPhones.

So what does this mean at the end of the day? If the rumour is true and Google are creating their own Tablet, it would be best to wait for their own tablet rather than forking out the dosh for an Apple iPad.

Quite a lot information. I am going to buy an Android netbook next week. Google Android looks more open for me. Btw, the “Tethering” you mentioned, still not a good option in South Africa yet.

Why does the Guest say tethering is still not a good option?? Im busy using USB wireless tethering now at the DevDay, working really well!

Well if you go to http://www.dealextreme.com … they have one for like $100 or something with free shipping … you will pay VAT in SA though, and shipping takes anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months depending on how customs feel the day your parcel arrives :P … also, there is no support for them but at R700-ish for a 7inch really not bad … just keep in mind they don’t use the fastest processors … we haven’t got an offical brand ones here yet.
